This was my first time at CCC Congress. I had no expectations nor stereotypes. Someone told me there are too many apples, someone else said they have rich technology (no retro-computing, noo). I knew after legendary Wau Holland the ‘Club’ had partially lost a consistent political direction. Not an isolated case in Europe, eh… A quite well known hacker, who invited me to go along with him to CCC many years ago, prophesied the rise of a female guide as the desirable rebirth of hackers’ movements in Germany and elsewhere.
Well, i haven’t seen that yet.
This year, that is last year, i can say i found a more conscious debate on technology and its relations with power, control, surveillance, social responsibilities of hackers outside any hope or trust towards institutions. How i share this opinion! CCC was active part in organising the big demonstration against surveillance and data retention last September in Berlin… That was probably a recent step towards a nowadays necessary social involvement.
Going back to the congress, i would like to paste here a couple of links of projects i honestly found interesting, which were presented just before my beloved VIRTUAL ENTITY…
Here is Searchilo, a command line search plugin system for the web, and soon for mobile phones! Lovely *
Next is OmegaWiki, an extension to the MediaWiki software specific for non literal translations.
